Rev. Joy Atkinson, M.Div., has enjoyed the opportunity to work as an Interim Minister with many different congregations that are in transition between settled ministers, which she believes is an especially fertile time in a congregation’s life -- an opportunity to explore the congregation’s unique identity, strengths, and challenges and to experiment with new ideas.
Rev. Joy received her Masters of Divinity from Starr King School for the Ministry in 1974. She also has an M.A. in English Literature and Teacher Education from Hunter College in the Bronx (1970) and an M.S. in Counseling from Cal State East Bay (1988). She has served Unitarian Universalist congregations for 25 years as a settled minister and for 14 years as an interim minister, mostly in California, including this congregation back in 2003-2004. She became an Accredited Interim Minister with the Unitarian Universalist Association in 2005. She is happy to be back among us, and she will work with UUCM at ¾ time for a year and a half to help us assess our congregation and navigate through this latest ministerial transition.
Among Rev. Joy’s hobbies and interests are amateur astronomy, choral singing, poetry, theater, and travel -- especially to archaeological sites. She most enjoys playing with her grandchildren, Joshua, nearly 6, and Nathan, 4, who live with their parents in Portland.
Rev. Joy is available to perform special ceremonies, such as weddings and services of union, child dedications and memorial or graveside services.
