UUMarin Hires New Director of Family Ministries

Life-long UU Lara Abel is the new Director of Family Ministries and will start at UUCM on August 16th in a half-time position. She was raised in the UU Santa Rosa congregation and now is a member and chair of the Worship Associates at UU Petaluma. Lara has supervised and taught children in RE classes and has also advised and supported youth in YRUU CONs, summer camp, and Coming of Age programs. She also has experience in leading youth as a member of Youth Caucus Staff at the UUA General Assembly. She will begin her studies in social work at UC Berkeley this fall. 

For the past seven years, Lara worked for Santa Rosa Junior College as a research technician in the Office of Institutional Research and then in the Gateway to College Academy. She has an AS degree with highest honors from Santa Rosa Junior College. She also has a background in IT support and systems administration. 

The Board appointed her at their July 10th meeting at the recommendation of the Religious Exploration Search Committee. Rev. Marcus Hartlief along with Rich Cohen, Susan Mathews, Sarah Tiederman and Tiffany Rowe reviewed the backgrounds of eight candidates and interviewed three. Her job description is posted on the website.
