I’ll be playing violin in the San Francisco PhilharmonicJessica Bejarano, Music Director. This time we’ll feature a program full of drama, from the operatic excitement of Verdi’s La Forzza del Destino Overture to the romantic suspense of a princess spinning tales for her captor in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. The drama turns virtuosic in Saint-Saens’ Cello Concerto No. 1 with expressive cello soloist Eric Sung, principal cellist of the SF Ballet Orchestra.

The mission of the San Francisco Philharmonic is to take world-class symphonic music off the pedestal and into the heart of our community. San Francisco Philharmonic is an orchestral group dedicated to cultural enrichment, music education and creating a performance platform for women and POC artists to showcase their talents. We are dedicated to executing diversity, equity and inclusion in all facets, from our board of directors, musicians, audience members and conductors on the podium.

I’ll be playing violin in the Phantasy Quintet by Marie Dare as part of SF Civic Music’s An Afternoon of Chamber Music series. Marie Dare is a little-known Scottish composer and her Phantasy Quintet is a romantic single-movement work that can be turbulent one moment and playful the next. Also on the program are Elliott Carter’s nervous Gra performed on solo trombone and Schubert’s joyful String Quintet. The jewel in Schubert’s String Quintet is the tender, slow movement with a dark turn in the middle. Fun fact: Both Dare’s and Schubert’s quintets are scored for string quartet with an additional cello!

I’ll be playing violin in the College of Marin Symphony OrchestraJim Stopher, Music Director. We’ll start off with Bach’s gentle Sheep May Safely Graze followed by the instrumental portion of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. The first two movements of Beethoven’s 9th showcase his strength and energy, and we’ll end the evening with the inwardly reflective third movement.
