My All-Alaska Tour
In July 2021, I took the All Alaska tour with the Unitarians. When Norm asked me to say a few words about it, I went back through my photos and was reminded of all of the wonderful experiences on that trip. Here are some of my lasting impressions.
Alaska is enormous, beyond your imagination, with mountains, forests, wetlands, glaciers, towns and cities. You’ll learn right away that Alaskans really love their state. You’ll have that strange experience of 22 hours of daylight, and won’t know when it’s time to go to bed!
The wildlife is unsurpassed; I saw a moose on my first day there, and by the end of the trip had seen gatherings of bald eagles, beavers, bears on the beach, and a wolf chasing a caribou through Denali National Park. Bring your long lenses and good camera!
The best part is getting to know the members of your small tour group, and the people with whom you’ll stay as you travel through this amazing state. The Unitarians in Alaska are warm and welcoming, and put on the most amazing potlucks you have ever seen, complete with salmon caught out of the river the same day. In Juneau, they even put on a talent show for us!
As you can tell, I had a wonderful time, and I know you will too, if you decide to take this tour.
