The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin (UUCM) was founded in January 1950 as the Unitarian Fellowship of Marin — a gathering of a few eager families in a private home. One primary goal was to provide a liberal religious education for the group’s children. The founders also wanted to build a religious community to support their individual spiritual journeys. These early goals remain fundamental to UUCM today.

In 1961, the American Unitarian Association and the Universalist Church of America joined to form the Unitarian Universalist Association. In the mid-1960’s, our church home was constructed and the Unitarian Fellowship of Marin became the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Marin. Liberal religion continues to flourish here. Many founding members are commemorated on name plates which are mounted on the sanctuary’s pillars.

UUCM is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA), an association of congregations across the United States headquartered in historic downtown Boston. Like all Unitarian Universalist congregations, UUCM is self-governed: it calls it own minister and elects its own leadership.

Ours is an energetic and dynamic liberal religious congregation. We promote spiritual and intellectual growth for all who join us, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or religious belief. Diversity and acceptance are values we strive to embody. Our hearts are open to all who wish to join us.
