The season of expectation called Advent begins four weeks before Christmas. Former UUA President John Buehrens will bring us a sermon both amusing and profound, appropriate for a congregation undertaking a ministerial search.

John Buehrens served as UUA President from 1993 to 2001. He is the author of a number of books on liberal religion, most recently Conflagration: How the Transcendentalists Sparked the American Struggle for Racial, Gender, and Social Justice (Beacon, 2020). In January he will publish A Religious Center with a Civic Circumference: Unitarians in San Francisco Since 1850. Retired, but serving as Consulting Minister to the Unitarian Universalists of Petaluma, he lives in San Francisco with his wife Gwen, a retired priest in the Episcopal Church.
