There is no meaningful human identity outside of relationship. The shape and nature of our all our relationships—from relatives we longed to visit, to grocery clerks we became more aware of, to the families or roommates we were cooped up with, to the casual friends we dropped out of touch with—the pandemic dramatically affected the shape and nature of our relationships. As we decide what meetings to keep on zoom and what to show up for in person, how much of the “pandemic lifestyle” we adopted that we wish to keep, how do we think about the underlying meaning of both our strong and weak connections?
